ROOFING CONTRACTORS’ INSTALLATION TIMELINE
From the time that you contact us to schedule your roof installation with your roofing contractors, to the time that the job is completed is roughly 1 to 14 days. This depends on factors such as the size of the job and the type of roofing required. This timeline can fluctuate further depending on what roofing materials need to be ordered and the time of year.
Once the job begins you can expect your new roof to be on within three to five days. As with scheduling, this may fluctuate due to unforeseen circumstances. Such as problems encountered during old roof removal or with additional work requirements.
REMOVING YOUR OLD ROOF
The roof removal process involves stripping your roof right down to the rafters. Your roofing contractor will start at the top at the ridge line and work our way down. Only the amount of roof sheets that can be replaced within that day are removed. This ensures that you are not left with an uncovered portion of the roof at the end of the day.
We attempt to make the roof installation process as clean and unobtrusive as possible. This ensures that no debris ends up in your home or yard. Occasionally tarps will be used to help haul away the debris. Care is taken to ensure that the tarps do not sit for too long on grass or other impressionable areas. As far as Asbestos roof removal the certified removal process will be followed.
PROBLEMS FOUND DURING ROOF INSTALLATION
While every attempt is made to discover a problem before the roof removal process begins, sometimes issues cannot be spotted until the roof sheets are off. When this happens, all options for repairing the problem are discussed with the client in detail before proceeding.
This includes things like rotting, sagging batons or purlins, depending on the type of roofing that may not have been apparent from below the roof sheets.
SISILATION UNDERLAYMENTS
What you may not realise is that before the roof sheets are laid by your roofing contractor, the rafters are first covered with a layer of sisilation.
This is a woven material covered in a reflective aluminium coating This coating assists with condensation and helps prevent water from reaching the ceilings.
CHIMNEYS, SKYLIGHTS AND ROOF PENETRATIONS
Anywhere there is a penetration or break in your roof, you have a potential for leaks. This is true of chimneys, skylights, stack lines, and other penetrations. Therefore, it’s important that each one be treated individually with proper sisilation, or flashing, caulking or torch-on membrane.
Because each chimney could be made of different materials, each one needs to be evaluated separately.
ROOF VALLEYS
Valleys are another area that has a higher potential for leaks, this must be treated accordingly. To help protect this area from water rushing in at different angles, valleys are generally V shaped. The ends are bent by your roofing contractor to ensure water gets channeled correctly. Valley sheets are available in various materials e.g. aluminium, galvanised or Zincalume.
The diverter is interlaced with roof sheets to help channel the water through the area, rather than letting it sit and potentially leak.
